Hawaiian Style Ham & Cheese Sliders

hawaiian ham and cheese sliders
Hi everyone! Do you have a lot of leftover ham from Christmas? We do. That's why Craft-O-Maniac's post today Top 10 Tasty Ham Recipes was a welcome sight. One of the recipes in her roundup was for ham and cheese sliders. I've seen these all over the internet for the last couple years and forgot that I even pinned a recipe for these over a year ago from The Girl Who Ate Everything. Thank you Craft-O-Maniac for inspiring me just when I needed to use up all this ham!

I ended up making a Hawaiian style version of these sliders using King's Hawaiian dinner rolls since that's what I had on hand, sweet chili sauce, pepper jack cheese, teriyaki sauce, and sesame seeds. That combo of salty, sweet, and a little spicy made for such a tasty lunch! This recipe is a keeper. My guys are gonna love these!

These mini sandwiches are so easy to make. They would be great to have out on a big platter while watching a football game or while hanging out watching movies with the fam.

Don't you want to make some right now???

Hawaiian Style Ham & Cheese Sliders
Makes 12 sliders

Ingredients:
12 King's Hawaiian sweet dinner rolls or other sweet dinner roll
12 slices of good quality, thick sliced ham
12 small slices of pepper jack or Monterey jack cheese (I had shredded pepper jack in the fridge and just used a little pile on each slider)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sweet chili sauce (I used Mae Ploy brand)
Sauce:
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 T. teriyaki sauce (I used Yoshida's brand)
1 T. toasted sesame seeds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Slice buns in half. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on top and bottom of each bun. On bottom layer, spread a thin layer of the sweet chili sauce on top of the mayonnaise. Add a slice of ham and then a slice of cheese to the bottom layer, then add the top bun on each sandwich. Place sandwiches close together in a foil-lined 13x9 rectangular pan, making sure the sliders are all touching.

In a separate bowl, melt butter if you haven't already done so. Add teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds to the butter and whisk until combined. Generously brush sauce onto the tops of the sandwiches making sure to coat them all thoroughly.

Cover the top with foil and bake for about 15 minutes until cheese is thoroughly melted. Remove foil and bake for another 2-5 minutes until tops are brown and slightly crispy. Serve warm.

Note: the tops can be a little sticky gooey with the teriyaki butter sauce but that just adds to the fun of eating these tasty little sammies. Line your pan with foil and clean up is super easy!

  2. Hi Sharon! Ha, you had ham for Christmas and we had it for Thanksgiving (I know, not normal). I wish I had seen this post back then, as I had tons of ham leftover. We actually threw it in a pasta and a few sandwiches, but my husband would have loved this combination. I will have to make if for him after Easter when we will be consuming ham yet again.

I'm so happy that you made the chocolate and coconut pie and that it turned out great! I'm also happy that I was a part of your holiday celebration! Yaay! I have eaten so much these past few days that I hit the gym hard this morning. I can't wait for 2013 so that I can get back to my normal workout and eating routine. It will be like a New Year cleansing. I'm also loving my blogging vacation. I have been catching up on some reading and cooking without having to take photographs. I now have time to look at my favorite blogs, your's being one of them!
    Have a great night girl!
    xoxo,
    Jackie

    1. Awww! I always love reading your notes Jackie. We had both a ham and prime rib for Christmas! We always have so much food and I'm actually feeling the same way as you - I'm actually tired of eating! Getting back to my workout routine here too but boy, I've got a lot of work to do to work off these holiday pounds. We still have lots of leftovers and I hate to waste it so we're eating them but once they're done, it's back to healthier eating! Glad you're enjoying your blogcation (haha). We'll chat again soon! xoxo, Sharon

  9. I made these before and they were BEYOND good...my only difference was pouring almost a whole stick of melted butter over them before sticking them in the oven.

    Great job!
