With My Mind on My Mirrors and My Mirrors on My Mind

♪With so much drama in the suburban bomb, It's kinda hard being Snoop LJ Mom...
Rollin' down the street in my minivan, sippin' on green kale juice,
Laid baack, with my mind on my mirrors and my mirrors on my mind. ♪
If you know this song and played the melody in your head to these words, then you're either:
A) a gangsta hip-hop rap star (welcome, homies! Now pull your pants up),
B) a mom with a teenager who likes to turn up the bass and listen to rap music in the car (I feel you, sister!), or
C) you're somewhere in between the two.
And if you don't know the song, well, you're not missing much - it is so not a happy sunshiney song. And yet, I still sing along to it.

Since I've already admitted to knowing a Snoop Dogg song, I've got a couple other confessions to make:  I LOVE Justin Timberlake. AND Justin Bieber's growing on me too (I know, right? How old AM I?) AND, I don't really own a minivan - it just fit in with the song. But I do like my green smoothies. And I do have mirrors on my mind. :)

I'm glad I got that off my chest. Let's move on to mirror talk, shall we?

Earlier this week, I mentioned that I'm working on a DIY decorating project to glam up the wall mirrors above our nightstands in the bedroom. They're not done yet, but I can't wait to show you the "after" pics soon! You can see the mirrors in this "before" pic:

master bedroom mirrors above nightstands before picture

As far as mirrors go, they're pretty boring run-of-the-mill wall mirrors that most people would just stick onto the back of a door to help them get dressed in the morning. I got these eons ago for around 5 bucks apiece at Walmart or Fred Meyer or one of those kinds of stores, and they pretty much look like...$5 mirrors. I like having a tall mirror above the nightstands. They remind me of a window and I love bedrooms that have windows on either side of the bed. It's such a pretty look! They reflect light back into the room as well as the view from our window and I like that. These however, while serving their purpose, are a snore-fest.

I've had a vision in my head for a couple years now of how I wanted these to look after they "grew up", and Rick and I been working on them for the past week trying to make that vision come to life. I'm telling you right now, it has been one mishap after another. That's how it goes sometimes in DIY Land, learning by trial and error. I'll explain it all when I show them to you, and I'll fill you in on what I learned so it hopefully makes it easier for someone else who might want to tackle a project like this. Now that I've figured things out, I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm excited about how they're turning out, and it's pretty close to how it was in my head. Whew!

I tried to find a mirror to show you online that looks something like the mirrors I'm working on, but I couldn't find anything like it, at least not in a mirror. So until the upcycled mirror reveal, I'll leave you with a few mirrors that I found around the web that really appeal to me. The prices not so much, but definitely the styles:
uttermost rembrandt silver mirror in antique silver leaf
Uttermost Rembrandt Silver Mirror $306. I love the silver leafing and the simple chunky frame.

barclay butera glynn mirror
Glynn Mirror $599. The lines along the frame really catch my eye, like modern leaded glass.

uttermost isandro mirror
Uttermost Isandro Mirror $438. This is so unique with the circles inside the rectangular frame. I like the burnished metal color of the frame too.

Quatrefoil Mirror $499. This mirror from Z Gallerie is just fab. It's more square though and I'm looking for something more rectangular to go above the nightstand but I could see this somewhere else in my house. Love Z Gallerie! I could decorate my whole house just from that store.

arteriors nikita gold and iron mirror
Arteriors Nikita Gold and Iron Mirror $516. I love this with the circular overlays on the mirror and the light shimmery colored frame.

horchow mosaic mirror
Horchow Mosaic Mirror $595. Okay now, this one is just so fabulous - the shape, the frame with the inset mirrored tiles, and the silver and gold leafing. Two of these would set me back $1,200. Mannnn. Another day, Horchow, another day.

angelo home marlow landscape mirror
Marlowe Landscape Mirror on Mirror $285. This one is all about clean modern glam with the mirrored tiles around the edges.

I'm hoping to be finished with the mirrors by this weekend. I wish they were done nowww, they're taking foreverrrr! Hold up...is that whining going on right now? In a public blog post?!? That is so not how a rap star would behave, Sharon. Buck up, buttercup!

Do rappers say "buttercup"?

Peace outtt.

  1. Ok, you are to hilarious and I LOVE IT! We really do have similar personalties. I am a total spaz and I sing my heart out all the time and act goofy. I love that you do the same. I did a post similar to this one on my old blog, http://bluejayandcrow.blogspot.com/2011/10/your-so-vain-and-oldies.html where I talked about the Carly Simon and her song, Your so Vain. It was a random post, but it was what I was feeling at the moment.
I think when we do finally meet up (which we will girl) that we will have the best time just goofing around and laughing it up. I have to admit that I don't know that particular song by Snoop Dogg, but now that you have the words stuck in my mind I'm going to have to check it out. I don't have a minivan either but I do love my green juices as well :)
I love some good old pop as well and sing along to whatever is on the radio. I don't think there is really an age thing when it comes to music. I love the classics along with rock, pop and rap, you name it, I like it.
Ok, I can't wait to see the mirror reveal and the whole room transformation!
Ok, Zoe is bugging me to go and watch Dance Moms. Yes, I admit we watch that show together, it's terrible but the girls are so talented and Zoe just loves to dance so that's our thing! Have a great night!
    xoxo, Jackie

    1. I just read that post and commented on it. Hilarious! Made me smile reading it. That song by snoop dogg is "gin and juice" - I'm actually a little embarrassed to tell you that because the words are really terrible in it, like rated R. So I made up my own words instead. Ha! Sometimes I listen so much to the music and beat of a song that I don't even realize the words in a song, and then when I do I think, "Is that what this song is about?!?"

When I was writing about the green kale juice, I actually thought of you! I was thinking about the smoothies I make in the mornings and then your green smoothie picture with the pink straw image popped into my head and made me smile!
I am so excited about the mirrors, it's smooth sailing now and they are almost done! This weekend. I'll post next week about them.
Hope you and Zoe had a good time watching Dance Moms - that's so cute. Have a great weekend! Are you watching the super bowl? I probably will unless I forget but the boys will probably have it on. Go 49ers!! xoxo, Sharon
