Happy July! Summer-y Bits of Randomness

Happy July! I don't have any one big thing to talk about today, and yet I have many little things in my head so I thought I'd write a 'Bits of Randomness' post, Summer Edition. Strap on your seat belt, I'm all over the place today!

I love cherry season and it's another sign that summer is here! Can you see the heart shaped one? Now that I think about it, they all look a little heart shaped to me. Stuffing my gut with these as I type:
I love seeing hearts in things, you can see more on my Hearts Pinterest board.

I am *mildly* obsessed with this photo from Abby M. Interiors. I love green. I love black & white. This gorgeous green sofa with black and white pillow makes me a little weak in the knees:

What are you reading right now? I always appreciate a good book recommendation. A friend of mine was recently reading "This is Where I Leave You: A Novel". It had her laughing so much that I had to download it too. Who doesn't want to laugh? I've only read a few chapters so far but have literally LOL'd several times already. Who would have thought that a book about death and mourning would be so funny and touching? It's a good summer read if you're looking for something not too deep and humorous.

Our son Jake came home a few weeks ago for the summer after finishing his first year in college, yay! It's been a big year of changes for all of us. I like that kid of ours a lot and glad to have him home.

Do you Instagram? I'm liking it more and more. I like seeing the way other people see things and it makes me feel sort of artsy as I try to capture the feeling of a moment in a photograph. If you'd like to follow along with my randomness on Instagram, please find me under my Instagram name LilikoiJoySharon. If you have an Instagram account or know of any interesting Instagram people to follow, let me know!

Rick and I are doing the Whole30 eating plan for the month of July. Do you know about Whole30? It's based on the Paleo framework. It's easy and yet not so easy. Eat whole, unprocessed foods - meat, seafood, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats from fruits, oils, nuts and seeds - and give it 30 days. Don't eat sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, dairy, white potatoes, or processed foods. No need to count calories or keep track of serving sizes. Just Eat.Real.Food. We were doing pretty well at that until the past year, then it kinda went to hell. Time to get back on track!

I first saw this recipe a couple weeks ago when Pam at Simple Details talked about it on her blog. These Grilled Lemon Chicken Skewers from Foodie Crush are on our menu for this week, and it fits in the Whole30 eating plan. It looks delish:

Have you seen Brian Williams rapping "Baby Got Back" from the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon? These Brian Williams rap clips crack me up.

Wish I was here again on Lanikai Beach on Oahu. Missing Hawaii:

I have a special place in my heart for Children's Hospital in Seattle, WA. I did my pediatric clinical rotation here while in nursing school and used to visit our pediatric patients here a couple times a week when I worked for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Those experiences still remain with me. They do great things here including caring for my friend Shannon's son and countless other children. There are several ways you can support Children's Hospital and if you are looking for a fantastic cause to support, please consider them.

Does your home tell your story? I first read this blog post well over a year ago and truly believe in what Gwen Moss has to say about home decorating.

Have a fantastic July!

Aloha,
Sharon

  3. A friend of mine did Whole 30 recently and had good results. I didn't realize what it is, but that's the way I eat the most of the time (minus the alcohol and dairy part). The heat of summer is making me give up my wine for the most part though, but I need my feta cheese! I did see that Brian Williams video. So funny! I bet you are thrilled to have your son home. My oldest is about to turn 12 and I'm already thinking about how he will be in college before I know it!
